Ammunition, suspected controlled drugs and cash, believed to be proceeds of crime, seized by police at the weekend.

Officers from the Eastern Community Policing Division were conducting enquiries in relation to another matter, when they discovered a quantity of suspected controlled drugs and drug paraphernalia at a Smiths Parish location.

Officers from the Tactical Division and Drugs Unit were called in to assist. A search of a vehicle parked nearby, led officers to a bag and other personal items. Officers also recovered a container in which was concealed several rounds of live ammunition. A quantity of plant like material believed to be cannabis was also recovered along with an amount of cash.

A thirty-one-year-old male suspect was subsequently arrested in connection with this incident and is now assisting police with their investigation. The items seized have been sent to the government Analyst for testing

Darrin Simons, the Acting Commissioner of Police stated: “This is another significant seizure by our officers as we continue our heightened efforts to address gang and drug activity through the introduction of initiatives such as Operation Sole, Operation Columba as well as Operation Vega, which, although aimed at reducing the incidence of traffic offences has also resulted in the seizure of drugs and weapons. The Bermuda Police Service wishes to thank those members of the public who continue to assist us by providing information and doing their part to make Bermuda safer.”
