Ministers Darrell & Weeks Praise Waterboyz at Crime Stoppers Bermuda Film Experience
At our 8th Annual Crime Stoppers Bermuda Film Experience, we were honored to present The Waterboyz, a powerful film that delves into youth, identity, and violence. This year’s event was especially meaningful as we welcomed Ministers Owen Darrell and Michael Weeks, who shared their insights on the importance of storytelling in addressing social challenges affecting our community.
Following the screening, we hosted a compelling panel discussion featuring producer Tirrell D. Whittley, executive producer Dolapo Erinkitola, and Bermudian associate producer Sia Spence. Moderated by filmmaker Dr. Dana Selassie, the discussion reinforced how film can be a catalyst for meaningful conversations and positive change.
Minister Darrell emphasized the need to support films that amplify underrepresented voices, while Minister Weeks highlighted how The Waterboyz reflects the real-life struggles of young Black men in Bermuda. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to investing in initiatives that uplift and support our youth.
We were also incredibly proud to showcase the work of Bermudian talent, with Sia Spence expressing her gratitude for the local support of her first credited film. She spoke passionately about the potential for collaboration between international filmmakers and Bermudian creatives to share our island’s unique stories with the world.
This event reminded us of the power of storytelling in shaping perspectives and inspiring action. The Waterboyz is now available for streaming on Apple TV, Amazon Prime, and Tubi, and we encourage everyone to watch and continue the conversation about how we can create a safer, stronger Bermuda together.
